Defragment to Improve Performance

Over time, the file system (or more accurately, its files) will tend to become fragmented. When this happens, it takes increasingly more and more time for files to be loaded, and the overall system performance will drag down noticeably. The cure for fragmentation is, of course, defragmentation. Running a defragmentation utility should be part of your overall preventive maintenance scheme.
