Improve Floppy Disk Read and Write Speed

Floppy drives have essentially remained unchanged for around 10 years, excluding the poorly-accepted 2.88 MB version. They are generally slow devices, but there is one simple way I have found to speed up their performance: use them under Windows 95. Windows 95 uses high-performance 32-bit floppy disk drivers, which are substantially faster than the routines used by DOS. Even if you open a DOS prompt window under Windows 95 and use your DOS floppy-disk programs there, you will see a substantial performance improvement over working with the floppy in plain DOS.
