[ The PC Guide | System Optimization and Enhancement Guide | System Optimizations and Enhancements | Miscellaneous Improvements ] Speed Up Parallel Port Operations (Including Printing) Your PC's parallel port is used primarily for printing in most cases; in the last few years, however, a large number of other devices have come on the market which use the parallel port as the interface to the system. The main reason I believe is that the parallel port is so standard: every PC has one. There originally was only one type of parallel port, but now there are several different types, which were invented to improve performance when printing or using the port for data transfer and similar activities. By default, many PCs come with the parallel port at its slowest setting. You can improve performance by changing the parallel port mode, using this BIOS setting.
