But what exactly does "performance" mean? I'm not trying to get mystical on you. :^) It's just that performance means different things to different people, and in fact there are many different kinds of "performance". How important a particular aspect of performance is, depends to a great extent on how you are using your system, and what your needs are. This introductory section looks at some of the basic issues involved in understanding hard disk performance. This includes a discussion of the importance of hard disk performance, a look at various ways performance can be considered, and a discussion of the relative importance of various performance specifications and factors.
