[ The PC Guide | Systems and Components Reference Guide | Motherboard and System Devices | The Motherboard | Parts of the Motherboard ] IDE/ATA Interface Cable A motherboard normally comes with one standard 40-pin IDE (ATA) hard disk / CD-ROM cable. It should have 3 connectors on it, but sometimes will only have 2. If you want to use two IDE channels (which is preferred in most cases for performance reasons), you will usually have to purchase an additional interface cable.
