Site Structure

One thing that I spent a great deal of time thinking about as I put this site together was how to structure it. Due to the sheer volume of information here, there was no sensible way to organize it as just a single or even two-level series of nested pages. I wanted it to be easy for people to find the information that they need quickly, and I also wanted to make the pages small enough that they would not take an eternity to load.

I therefore decided to set up the site like a volume of books. Each of the main topic areas I call a "Guide". Each Guide is broken into chapters, and the chapters are broken down into sections. (I am not always totally consistent on the use of these terms, unfortunately). In some areas, the information nests several layers deep. I tried not to make things too complex but in some places the information simply demands this.
