In particular, you want to carefully investigate anything that seems "unusual", "wrong" or "surprising". These are often the clues that will get you going down the right track to figuring out what is giving you trouble. If you are observant and careful about what you are doing, you will be much more likely to pick up on these things than if you are in a hurry or you are quick to discount your findings as "unrelated to the problem".
