My system are :
Windows 2000, motherboard VIA apollo 686A,
and my CDWriter is SONY CRX-140E CD-RW
I have set my BIOS to boot from CDROM, A, C in sequence, apparently the CDRW is not detected as CDROM and it skip the Bootable CD inside it.
How can I make my computer able to boot from CD Writer with a bootable CD ( i.e. Windows 2000 installation CDROM)?

Did you just get the CDRW? It might be defective. Make sure the jumpers on the CDRW is set to master. Also check the cables to see if they are disconnected. Hope that help

I have a similar problem. I have two different PCs with bootable CD support. On one computer, it boots of a Win98SE (OEM) CD that I have, but won't boot from a boot CD I made with EZ CD Creator (though it will read it). The other computer will boot off my custom-made boot CD, but won't boot from the Win98SE CD.
Anyone what's up with this 'select CD booting' ?

Any more suggestion? the Hardware settings is already like this :
FYI: 2 hard disk connected to IDE1, and Sony CDRW connected to IDE2 as Master.
and the CDRW is working perfectly under windows. No Hardware defect.

set your bios to read: A, then CD_XX, then C drive.
why do you want to boot from the CD ??
with a win98se OS you generally want A drive to be read 1st, in case you need to boot to emergency disk. Can't your machine boot from C ??
if not we can tell you how to.
let us know.
edit: was looking at the post AFTER your original.. sorry.. your system is win2k.. try HERE (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q249/1/49.ASP).
additionally, you should get the Service Pack HERE (http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/downloads/servicepacks/sp1/default.asp), if you haven't already.

If you boot from FDD, it takes a million years to boot with the win2k startup disk... it takes a year with win98 startup disk, but it takes seconds booting directly from CD.
and sea69, seems you're stupid enough reading my question. absolut nothing to do with operating system when you want to boot from CDROM/CDRW.

rendez You have stated this problem in two separate threads.
And now you call a person who is taking the time to try to help you stupid? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/mad.gif
I posted a suggestion in your other thread, but I'm going there now to delete it.

EDIT: ever notice how insulting people NEVER include a way to email them ??
I suppose that's because they KNOW when they sign up, that they will most likely be rude to someone .......
