First of all, what type power supply do have have ? You should have 300W ATX at least, second are you cooling the cpu properly with heatsink and fan. Also check in the BIOS, if your memory parameters are setup properly, check AGP aperture. Check for latest drivers and bios.

Check the things rkmca has suggested, good advice there.
PC Guide BIOS Settings (http://www.pcguide.com/ref/mbsys/bios/set/index.htm)
BIOS Survival Guide (http://www.manawatu.gen.nz/pages/bios_survival/bios_sg.htm)
Definitive BIOS Optimization Guide (http://www.adriansrojakpot.com/Speed_Demonz/BIOS_Guide/BIOS_Guide_Index.htm)
Thought those might help.
Also, if you installed everything all at once without taking time to cheack each application, or installed anything with an antivirus running, that's likely to be half your problem. I always recommend installing one application at a time and checking it out before adding anything else, and install antivirus last.
That way if you start to have problems, you know where they came from. This problem could well be related to software fighting over resources. Run msconfig and take everything out of start up you can live without. Keep system tray, scan registry, task monitor, load power profile and antivirus.
Shut down power management and/or screensavers in the display properties as a troubleshooting step, turn it back on later if it makes no difference. And by the way, screensavers can interfere with power management if set to start after power management shuts down the monitor.

Soon as I come up with all the answers...they change the questions!!
