Someone please help, this is costing me a fortune!
I tried to go from an aopen bx6bc motherboard with an intel pII 400 mhz cpu (slot 1)that was working fine, to an aopen ax34 motherboard with an intel pIII 600mhz (socket 370) coppermine that wont boot at all.
What happens is that when I power it up the power supply fan goes on and the cd-rom drive spins and I think the hard drive tries to turn on (no beeps at all). The cpu gets warm but not hot, by the way I dont have a fan for this cpu but the first time I started it I got the same response.
I triple-double checked that the cpu and memmory (128mb dimm 100mhz)would work with this motherboard, and they do... according to the manufactures specs.
What I wont to know is if its my cpu is bad or my motherboard is, they are both brand new. I handled them correctly each time I tried to install them.
Is there a way of using a volt and ohlm meter to determine a bad cpu or mb?Here is a list of things I have checked again and again.
1) EVERYTHING was seated properly and put in its proper place
2) all jumper settings were correct
3) ALL cables were in their correct position power, led, reset, etc.
4) I even tried to boot it without the vga card and still nothing
5) checked for shorts(took out and put it on table top)
6) power supply works fine (atleast it works fine for my other mb)
7) I reset the bios
please help, I cant keep spending on mistakes.
thanx, chris
