http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif when i put in a floppy disk i get a clicking noise then an error box that says "A:\is not accessible. The device is not ready" My floppy has always worked before, it just quit. When I boot up puter, it says Searching for boot record from floppy not found. I checked driver by shutting down and restart in msdos mode, at prompt i placed disk into floppy disk dr. and typed "format a:" all i kept getting was "not ready". I check amibios setup floppy drive A 1.44 MB 3 1/2. What to do?

Clean it, if that doesn't help, replace it (they run about $10 to $20 and are not worth trying to repair). You can also check to make sure that the cable is still firmly attached (both ends; drive and motherboard). Also I assume that you have tried several disks...if not try some, preferably from a different box.

Is clicking noise the same as when the drive is empty? sounds like its not engaging the floppy.

Agree with mjc, replace the drive.

http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif ok, what are the chances of purchasing a damaged floppy drive? I put new one in and still nothing. Little box still says A:\is not accessible. The divice is not ready. I can clic on floppy disk with no disk inserted and it says the same thing. It's like it is not getting a connection. I am concerned about when I boot up puter and it goes down to floppy it say floppy disk boot record not found. And I am not sure what it means. Think that might be my problem? Also, the noise did stop.

Have you tried coming out of the gate with a boot disk?

I'm sorry, I don't know what "coming out of the gate with a boot disk", means. I am still dog paddling.

Sorry about the confusion...do you have a floppy boot disk? If you have a boot disk try inserting and using it to boot up the computer.
