I recieved a Buslink CD RW at Christmas and went to install it last week. Should be simple. When I applied power, the drawer opened. I closed it, it opened again. This continued. The PC recognized the drive, loaded the drivers and the drive showed up in Explorer just like it should. But the drawer wouldn't close. At this time it was set as the master, on my second IDE port. I then tried it as Slave and put it on the CD-ROM cable. Same thing. So I unplugged the IDE cable completely. Same thing except for seeing the drive. I tried 3 different power connectors, including the one from my CD-ROM which works fine.

I have a few computers at work so I tried it there, using the same set ups I discribed above. NO PROBLEMS! Was it a fluke? Tried it at home, same problem. Tried it again at work in several computers. No problem!

The manufacturer said to send it back (because Best Buy won't take anything back 30 days and 1 second after you buy it) but I'm afraid they'll say there's nothing wrong with it.

Any idea's. I'm running windows 98 on a custom built machine (PIII600, 128 MG RAM, 1 CDROM, 1 Floppy, 20 GB HD, no other periphs). HELP!

I wouldn't think it would be anything serious it may just be a bent door and every time you move it it goes away? Very carefully just mess with it in the little hole in front take a paper clip and insert it and you will feel a little pressure like your moving something,it may just need to be pushed? the gear timing may be messed up?if it is being recognised by the computer and you have no conflicts in Device Mgr it pretty much should work. does the light stay on all the time? will it push in by hand and open again? try putting a CD in it and see if it will record.

Thanks for the replies. No matter what I do, the drawer won't stay closed in my home PC, with or without a CD. It closes, spins and opens again. Why does this only happen in 1 of 4 PC's I've tried it in? Could it be a power supply issue?
