This comes up when I boot up and if I try to cancel it my computer shuts down. My computer also says it is out of memory but it is 75% free.

What is going on and how do I correct the problem

I hate to say it but you've been probably nabbed by a virus. If you have an antivirus programme use your rescue disk and run it. Make sure that the disk(s) are write protected, that is the tab in the upper left corner facing from the back is up, so you can see through the hole. Just stick in the disk and run it as per the manufacturer of the programme.

There is another free, full-featured, antivirus program from Computer Associates. InoculateIT Personal Edition (http://antivirus.cai.com/). It works with Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000.
