Hi,
When I turn on my computer I get this message, "Monitor is working, check cable cord or computer". I get a continuous beep and clicks at intervals.
I hooked the computer up to two different monitors and I get a black screen and the same ominous beeps.
I replaced the video card and re-seated the one stick of memory and the same results.
Can anyone help?

Might be a bad motherboard or memory, among other things. Could you please give us a little more info on your system (i.e., processor, motherboard manufacturer, BIOS type, OS you're running, etc.)?

Been so busy. The motherboard is a PC100 AGP Pro,running AD-K6-2 at 300.
The OS is Win98 Second edition. Not sure about the BIOS(maybe an Award).

Since your system is at least several years old, I believe your problem is a dead motherboard. Continuous beeping could be bad memory, video card, or motherboard/CMOS chip, depending on the BIOS type. You've replaced the video card, so it's between the motherboard and memory. If you can borrow another stick of memory to try, that would at least eliminate that possibility. I'm sorry I don't have a more hopeful suggestion! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif

Is this continuous beeps, or a set of 8 or 9?

8 would mean either a memory or video card problem, 9 would be a bad CMOS chip. Count the beeps, and if they are continuous, I agree with mom, your motherboard is bad. If you hear 8 and a pause, reseat the video card, and clean the contacts on the memory chip with a red rubber pencil eraser.

The pencil eraser trick is not highly recommended, since it can rub off the gold plating, but that takes many cleanings. Once shouldn't do any harm...

I also agree that since you've tried a different video card that shouldn't be it, but reseating might clean off the internal contacts in the slot, it's worth a try. Same for the memory.

Sorry to say it, but I think it's most likely a bad motherboard.
