I installed a CD-R in my computer, but was getting an error when trying to write to a cd. I went into "my computer" and double clicked on the new drive I had installed. It said f: drive could not be found. How do I make my computer recognize this drive?

Some more info like what other IDE devices are installed/configured would help. First, I would check in the Setup and have it auto detect the drives. I ended up making my CDRW drive the primary on the second IDE channel and the original CD ROM drive the slave on the same channel. Also check the jumpers on the drives to make sure of the correct settings (master/slave). Post back if this doesn't help.

I didn't have a chance to check this out last night, but I know that my cd-rom is the master and RW is the slave. Would I have to set up the autodetect in the Bios?

Yes, once in the BIOS setup go to the section where the IDE devices are listed you should see all drives listed or at least the potential for four devices. There should be instructions on the screen for modifying data fields. Just be sure of what you do there. If you are uncomfortable in the BIOS print the screen or write the info down before attempting change. Happy learning http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
