I have a Compaq Presario Laptop, Windows 98SE, sound card is VIA PCI Audio Controller (WDM). In the past using Go2Call.com I have frequently contacted relatives in the UK PC to phone. I use a microphone/headset. Occasionally I get cut off but it seems to work in a full duplex fashion. Recently using both Go2Call and PhoneFree I can hear the other party but they can't hear me. I know little about firewalls but assume that if I have been successful in the past, my sound card is full duplex and I haven't changed anything re the firewall (if there is one) to my knowledge. Am going in for surgery in 2 weeks and will be away from home around a month recuperating, so am anxious to take in my laptop so I can communicate with the outside world. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you were able to use these programs previously with the firewall installed, and it's not a recent addition, try resetting your volume controls. Double click on the speaker icon in the taskbar, and click Options, then Properties. click the radio button beside Recording Controls, and make sure your Mic is checked. Then click OK, and that will open the main recording volume controls, which affect volume going out through the mic, or into the Sound Recorder.
If that's not it, then maybe something has been changed in the firewall settings, you'll need to take a look and check the help files or their website, and maybe some of the folks here can come up with more ideas.
