I recently purchased a E-machines PIII 866 MHz PC(eMonster 866k) with Windows Me pre-installed from my local branch of Pc World for my sons Christmas present.
I inserted my new voodoo card into the machine hoping detect my new card and disable the old one-It didn't.
I then removed my voodoo card-changed the onboard INTEL 810 graphics chip to a standard vga rebooted then shutdown my pc.
Installed the voodoo card again-Still no joy.
I have been to e.machines website and it tells you there how to disable other models-but not the 866. http://www.e4me.com/techsupport/faq.html#upgrade

We would love to get all the latest games up and running with our new voodoo card but unfortunately cannot due to the poor spec onboard graphic chip.

I have tried on numerous ocassions to contact emachines but have had no replies.

Best regards Rob

Hate to say it but since you've been inside the machine your warranty may now be useless...

You need to look at the motherboard manual. You might be able to go back to the retailer where you bought it and get one, if it didn't come with the documentation with the machine, and chances are disabling it might not be possible, that depends on the motherboard that's in it.

Usually it will have a jumper on the motherboard that has to be set to enable or disable the onboard video, and about the only way I know of to find out is to look in the manual. Sometimes boards will have jumper settings printed on them, but that's more the exception than the rule...Occasionally it can be done in BIOS as well, again depending on the board...you need a manual.
