Other than my motherboard being defective (MSI MS6380) I cannot figure out why my system will not accept a GeForce 2 card... I have tried a VisionTek 64 Mb and a Hercules 64 Mb card. Neither of them will allow the system to boot. The system flickers then goes dead. If I put either my old Voodoo Banshee 16 Mb or a borrowed TNT2 32Mb card everything runs fine.
I am at a loss.

Hey Tin,
Not sure on this one. Are you trying per chance to use AGP cards? Is the old one that works a PCI card?
If yes to both questions, then you may have to enter your BIOS setup and switch the video display from PCI to AGP, if indeed, that option is available.
Just a thought and probably nowhere near the right solution, but it can't hurt to check it out.
Good luck.

Yes my original card was a PCI card. The others are AGP. However, my MB has an AGP slot. In fact, the TNT2 card that I tried was an AGP card. It reads as AGP in the System Properties/Device Manager.
Now, just a thought. I have 250W power supply in my case. Would these cards require more power?
With the PCI card in is there a way to check the settings for the AGP, or are they disabled? I believe that the GeForce cards are 4x AGP and the TNT is a 2x card, so you may have to adjust it in the BIOS in order to get it to work.....

Tried that. The TNT2 is acting as an AGP card. The BIOS are set up to recognize AGP. However, it seems that anything bigger than 32 Mb causes these problems.
It appears that I will have to exchange this bloody MB. That's another 10 days using my old Celeron processor...

Unless anyone has some other ideas?

Do you have an option to set the AGP aperature? Is it set to 32?

Do you hear windows boot in at all ? , when I upgraded my voodoo3 to a geforce2 , I would boot up but but it wouldnt go into windows at all , but I would hear the loading sound ,
this was due to the way voodoo installs it's drivers etc , basically all over the place , I had to remove all voodoo3 files from my system and shut down , put the geforce in and let windows detect it from scratch.

Check that page out , it's a great geforce FAQ regarding the many problems people have with them.
