I have this running now and am unhappy with it. I woiuld like to use my Diamond Monster MX300 sound card. I never had any of the problems I am experiencing with the VIA AC'97.

For instance, playing HalfLife is impossible due to the fact that all voices in game are completely garbled.

I also use Roger Wilco and for some reason it continues to shut my mic off. I am also told that my voice quality is not what is was prior to this sound device.

I have tried disabling the onboard sound and installing my old card. However this causes my system to lock up immediately after boot up.

Please help! There has to be a way for me to use my other card. Otherwise I'm going to have to purchase another MB without onboard sound... My wife is gonna kill me...

Have you tried putting the sound card in a different slot? It is generally recommended not to use the PCI slot next to the AGP slot.

Yes, it was in the third PCI slot. I haven't tried another but I will this evening. I hope that helps...

Hey,

So by disabling the onboard sound, what do you mean? What steps did you take?

You might try this: Boot up in Safe Mode, using the onboard sound, and go into Device Manager. Find all the references to the onboard sound and choose Properties. Check the box beside the statement that says something like, "Disable in this hardware profile". Now, reboot and go into your BIOS setup. You should have an option, can't remember which sub-heading it's under, to disable onboard sound. Save and exit. Continue to boot. Once it's up and running, go back into Device Manager and see if the onboard listings are still there. They shouldn't be. If they are, choose each one and Remove them. Reboot and see if they are still there. They shouldn't be. If they're not, then power down and install your soundcard and go from there.

Good luck.

Nope. That didn't work either. Unfortunately it appears I will have to take a day off of work to sit on hold and get assistance from the manufacturer.

Of course, any help here would be most appreciated.

I had probs disabling my on-board sound until I learned that it had to be done by jumper on the mobo and in the bios. Just flingin' bananas on the wall.

How would I disable this jumper?

I looked at the manual for your board and there was no listing for a jumper to disable on-board sound (like I said...bananas on the wall). I did find the following excerpt from this[/url page...although it is not your specific board...maybe there are 3 diff places in the BIOS to do the disabling of the on-board sound.

Excerpt:

You have the following things set in the BIOS:
1.In Advanced Chipset Features:
OnChip Sound Auto
2.In Integrated Peripherals:
Onboard Legacy Audio Enabled
SoundBlaster Disabled
3.Leave all the rest at their defaults and remove any driver that might have been installed.

I looked through FAQ's and found nothing.
You could always try your luck in the forums of the site.
