It's that 486 guy again.....
ISA modem installed , recognized, drivers loaded and have done diagnostics
through control panel. Modem passes diagnostic tests..ati tests etc.
When trying to connect, I am receiving "no dial tone found" error.
Connection has beeen checked.
Anything special I should know about installing an ISA modem... there
appears to be jumper settings or irq setting tabs on the board, if that
makes sense.
As well there are no conflicts in device manager.
Do you have voice messaging on your telephone? The alert signal it sends is one possible cause. Have you tried plugging a phone into the PHONE jack of the modem and listened for the tone? Also make sure the cable from the wall jack is going into the LINE jack. Since the diagnostics work, that generally is a good indication that the jumpers on the board are set correctly. It may be a hardware problem on the modem if all else checks OK. This modem troubleshooting (http://php.iupui.edu/~aamjohns/trouble.html#No%20Dial%20Tone) may help.

Hello again Reid,
There is no voice messaging installed, but I did fail to check the connection correctly. As per your suggestion I did hook up a phone and
receive a faint dial tone. Any attempt to dial and the phone went dead.
I did notice that the jack's slots on the isa card have 4 pins as opposed
to just the two you see today. The phone jack that are being plugged into the card have but two pins. Is this the possible culprit?
As far as I know, standard modems only use the two middle conductors, which is Line1 on a normal phone connection. Have you tried plugging in a different cable? Maybe the cable is bad.
Once you verify the cable is good, if you get a normal dialtone when plugging a single-line phone into the wall jack, but a weak sound when plugging into the PHONE jack on the modem, then it seems like a hardware failure of the modem. The modem may have been subjected to a voltage surge at some time.
