problem with monitor resolution with a s3 savage4 16mb video card. Resolution won't go above 640x480. not sure which driver to use for monitor because it is not branded. tried default monitor driver, didn't work. not sure what to do, any suggestions much appreciated.
amd 600mhz
300+ ram
directx 8*
win98

*maybe problem with directx 8 i think?

taking suggestions posted i changed the monitor to plug and play, it didn't make any difference.
Not sure how to find latest driver for graphics card as it is a generic unbranded s3 savage4 16mb with no url supplied for driver updates

I've got the Diamond Multimedia version of your card, I suspect their drivers (http://www.diamondmm.com/default.asp?menu=support&submenu=Legacy_Graphics&item=drivers&product=Stealth_III_S540) may work for you.

Oh, and to identify the maker of your card: reply with FCC link (http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/Forum12/HTML/000212.html).

I suspect it is a driver problem...just make sure that when you switch the drivers that you first swittch to "standard VGA" before you try to install them. also chheck Device Manager in safe mode for any "ghost drivers".
