AFTER I INSTALLED OFFICE 2000, THIS DELL OPTIPLEX GX1 ACCESSES ITS DISKETTE DRIVE FOR NO APPARENT REASON 4-5 PER HOUR. NO DISKETTE IS IN THE DRIVE, AND THE ANTI-VIRUS PROGRAM IS NOT SET TO A SCHEDULE TO CHECK IT. WILL APPRECIATE ANY HELP! THANKS.

Is it accessing the floppy drive only when you are using the program, or when office is shut down as well? Since Office autosaves documents about every 10 minutes, it may have been set up to save to that drive.
I believe that can be changed by going to "file," then "save as" and change the default drive from (generally) "a:" to "C:"

This is a good place to start anyway http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/redface.gif)

Try disabling Fast Find. Go to Start\Settings\Taskbar & Start Menu and click Start Menu Programs then the Advanced tab. Click the + beside Programs and create a Temporary folder somewhere, then drag Fast Find from the Start Up folder to the Temp folder you just created. Close the window, OK out and reboot, it should be gone. Anything you don't want to run at start up can be moved to the same Temp folder, and easily be replaced later if you need it back in Start Up.

I also just found This link ( http://www.createwindow.com/wininfo/floppybug.htm) in another post, if it helps you can thank Reid.
