Was trying to add some memory and it may not have been the same kind. Adding PC-100 to a system with a PII 350 that I think has the same. Anyone know how to tell ? Put system back together and power comes on, but no video or "counting" of memory - just hangs. Took out the new memory and same thing. Have taken apart and re-seated all the cables, connections and memory four times now and nothing. Also replaced suspect IDE cable with new one and still the same. This happened once before and the shop charged me an hour for re-seating the cable, which I did several times before taking in. Is there some sort of a reset button or something I am mising ?
Thanks, Tony
Check and re-check! This is one of the main Frustrations of working on your own PC. First lets try getting it to boot up with the minimum configuration.
Power supply connected to the motherboard, Video card inserted, and the old memory installed. Make sure there aren't any wires shorting out to the case, or that the motherboard is shorting out on the case anywhere. IF everthing checks, the memory should count up then get a floppy disk failure, followed by missing operating system. (because you disconnected those cables for the minimum requirements) If you get this far, try the new memory.

Thanks for the info. Narrowed it down to the memory or the slot. Slot one is working fine so I just got a 128 stick and I'll be fine. Hey - it's the kids machine anyways. Great site - thanks again. Tony
