i just recently built a AMD ATHLON 1.4GHZ with an ABIT KR7A-R MOBO and i am using the creative soundblaster 5.1 live sound card with it. i cannot get my MOBO to recognize the soundcard. the first time i installed everything my comp took the sndcrd and the modem, due to mistakes with installation of other components i reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled the os(win 98) and components and it will not recognize the sndcrd or modem. the IRQ is set to coincide with the com port so i don't know what i am doing wrong. help is appreciated.

This is now a triple post...have you tried any of the suggestions listed in your pervious posts?

You will not get any more/faster help by posting the same problem multiple times, in fact you may even a=irrate some people and they will refuse to answer. Don't worry if you posted in the wrong location, the regulars read and answer in all areas. Also if you can't find your previous posts you can go to the preferences tab and adjust the number of days topics will be displayed (5 or 10 should be pretty good).

Whew.....this one takes a bit of work to get right.....but here are the steps I would take to fix it:
1. Go to Settings/Control Panel/System/Device Manager and see if the sound card and modem are shown with "!" by them....if so, they must be deleted and then "rediscovered" by Win98 the next boot....then you can install the drivers for them.
2. If they do not show up......look for "Unknown Devices" section and remove one item at a time and reboot until you get them all properly installed.
What happens is the "plug & play" feature of Win98 will detect a device; however, if the wrong drivers are installed it will either put an ! by the device or call it a "unknown device", depending on whether you tried to install drivers when it was detected or just "entered" through the process when you didnt know which drivers to install. Maybe someone else here has experienced this lately and can give more help to you.
