Hi! We have a Compaq 5160 with a 6G hard drive and 128MB RAM. We upgraded from Win98 to WinME a few weeks ago. We decided to do a full restore to 'clean out' our system. To start we got the error that we couldn't, because we were currently running a more advanced version of Win that what was on our restore disk, we should delete it and then try again. So we deleted WinMe which took us back to Win98 automatically. Then when we tried the full restore from Windows we kept getting the error that we were missing file program.exe and Quick REstore could not run. When we tried restoring by booting off the recovery disk, we got the restore menu (choose help, full restore, or exit to dos), chose full restore, and then got the error not ready reading drive O. I'm not sure what drive O is actually, but I believe it's one of our virtual drives (O and N I think)but I am not sure it's purpose or function. I followed tech advice to remove and reinstall the DOS partitions (our computer only has one main partition) using fdisk and came up with the same error. Next tech advice was to format our hard drive by using format c:\ from the a:\ prompt. Went through the full format and are still having the same problem. I am able to access all drives (hard drive, floppy, CD ROM, CD Burner, and N:\ drive). I am able to switch to O drive from C:\ or a:\ by simply typing O:\ but when I try any commands at the O:\ prompt I simply get the same error, Not ready reading drive O:\ abort, retry, fail. Anyone have anything else for me to try? TEch support now says take it to the nearest authorized repair shop, but since we are no longer under warranty I would like to avoid that if I can.
Thanks for any help!
