We have a Sony Vizo Pentium 2 266MHZ Desktop with 160 mb ram.

We are currently getting the following error.....

Can not find a device file that is needed to run Windows or Windows Application.

Windows registry or System.ini file refers to this device
it no longer exists.
If deleted on purpose you need to uninstall associated application.

If you want to use application try reinstalling program V Server.VXD
Than we click to continue and we get

Fatal Exception-Error 06 has occured at 0028:00000017

The current application will be terminated.

The machine than reboots and we can get to Safe Mode.

Does anyone know what we need to do to correct the problem?

Any help would be greatly Appreciated.

Thank You

Extract it from the Windows 95 Cd-Rom, I found it in Win95_12.cab. Place that file in your c:\windows\system directory.

Should we do this even though we are running Windows 98?

Hey Blazer,

Chances are NO, to the question about the WIN95 file. Bob probably is running 95 and did a search for the file. If you are using 98, then of course, use the 98's version of the file. If you can boot to safe mode, try searching for the missing file on the 98 CD.

Or, as long as you can boot in Safe Mode, run the System File Checker. (I assume that SFC works in Safe Mode. If not, follow the other directions for copying it to your system directory) I can't remember exactly how to get to it, but it's under Accessories/System Utilities/SystemInformation/Tools, or something like that. Be sure to have your 98 CD handy. That should alert you to the fact that the file is missing and offer to extract it from the CD.

Cheers,

Big Blue 66
