Using IBM Thinkpad laptop. Unit has a PS/2 connector on the side for external mouse. Two-button mouse works OK. Three-button mouse will move cursor, but none of the buttons work. The laptop's serial connector will not work at all with a serial mouse. What's my problem? (This is true of five Thinkpads that I have tried -- all ca. 1993 models type 9552.)

well, when you try plugging in a serial mouse, are you putting in the mouse, then booting the computer? And, does the serial port work for other things? Serial port must install the mouse separate of ps/2 mouse. Also, if 3 button doesn't work, maybe go under mouse in control panel, and change it to 3 button mouse... have you tried that?

Thanks for your prompt reply, but .....
Tried using the Serial port for the mouse, but nothing else. Doesn't work -- not any indication that it's there. Tried installing 3-button mouse in control panel but it gives me a message that the mouse isn't working. I always re-boot the laptop after installing any hardware. That's standard.

Have you tried updating the mouse drivers? WinDrivers (http://www.windrivers.com) and WinFiles (http://www.winfiles.com) usually have about any driver you can think of.

If you had everything...Where would you put it?

Thanks for the advice. I've tried several drivers I had on my shelf, but they did not work. I'll try the above Internet addresses for some others.
