My convenience coffee holder, or CD tray, got bumped while open. Now it can't return fuly unless aided, but then can't detect a CD.
It's in a three year old Dell Dimension unit.
I've taken it out, removed the top and tray . The problem seems to be in the synchronising of drive cog and tray rack. The CD reader unit relies on this for raising and lowering, so the operation is really scewed up unless the tray is inserted exactly on the correct point on the cog. I'm getting frustrated with it but before the final trashcan destination can anyone advise a tight scot on his synch problem?

When it gets knocked out of synch about the only recourse is to bite the bullet and go shopping...I got lucky, all I did was break the outside cover off mine, it still works perfect. Thought I was in trouble, knocked the tray sideways when I turned and kicked it not realizing the tray was still open. Dismantled it, pushed it back in, and to my surprise it worked.
