I'm having a problem with my new PC, to which I installed my old video card (ISA-bus). Now, my video works fine, but my floppydrives won't work.
I asked the vendor (who indeed did tell me that I might have problems with an ISA videocard) and he suggested a new card? As did this pcguide.
Is there anyone out there who can give me a hint of how to work around the (obvious) IRQ problem?
P.S. I use DOS, Windows is unavailible untill I solve my problem http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/confused.gif

Just going to a PCI video card might do it. that should free up the IRQ that was apparently taken over by the ISA card.
In DOS try typing msd and see if it works. It will give you a list of free and used IRQ's. I'm not sure it's on a bootdisk, but it might be. I always make my own bootdisks and make sure it's there.
You can also search the MS site and see if they have it available for download. I think they might. MSD stands for Microsoft Diagnostics, and was included with DOS 6 and above, maybe DOS 5, I'm not sure.

If you had everything...Where would you put it?

Thanx Pete
Can you still help me?
I found msd, but...
Running it shows that I have an 486DX PC with ISA & floppy assigned correctly.
(My new PC is a Celeron with AGP/PCI/ISA (and no floppy))
Aren't these the values of my old computer (I cannot remember if I installed the Dos on my 486 or 386), eg those at the moment of installation?
And is it possible to reassign IRQs via dos?
