hi folks i really need some help with this one.
i have purchased a kodak ez200 and after takink a few photos i decided to upload them to my computer using the usb port. the software was provided (photoimpressions 2000)and i installed all the camera drivers.
when trying to receive the photos i get the following message "general failure in response to MSG_ENABLEDS. low memory condition encountered, free up some memory and try again"
i have 128meg of memory and at the time 45meg of that was free.
the system requirements for the camera is only 32mb.
i also have 12gb of free space on my hardrive.
any ideas anyone?

Probably referring to conventional memory, not RAM...

Also check the website for the camera and photo program, they might have some info listed in their FAQ, or possibly a patch if this is a known problem.

thanks pete for your speedy and informative reply. have checked out the address you posted and although i have not had the chance to put the information i gained to use yet, i feel that it could well be the answer.

hi ya.
went into ms-dos prompt and typed mem/c
this gave me the following results: total conventional memory 655,360
used 145,854
free 509,536

as you can see from this i don't seem to have a problem with conventional memory.
i checked out kodak website, but no listing of such a problem. there was a contact number which i used and was told that they would have to get in touch with kodak america to see if they could help. i don,t hold out much hope of a reply though.
my next step will be to try it out on another computer and i'll post the results shortly.

You might check around some of the better download sites for a memory optimization utility, I can't think of anything else. Any time I see a memory related error message it's usually referring to conventional memory, since Windows is supposed to use Virtual Memory to assist with RAM. As long as you have enough hard drive space to let Windows use a big enough swap file you should be ok. Windows can theoretically handle up to 4GB memory.

Check your drive space and make sure you have at least twice the amount of ram on the drive where the Windows swap file is located. You said you have 12GB, that should be plenty. Defragmenting the drive might help.

I still think Conventional memory is most likely the problem, the application you're using could require more that 509k, many times at least 520-540k is recommended.
