I bought an Intel PC camera for my Pavilion computer. In the package was instructions to download an update to the Conexant Riptide Audio card. I downloaded the update, installed the camera, and now my modem doesn't work. I contacted HP and they suggested using Recovery Disk 2 and reinstall my modem. I did, it still isn't working. The probelm seems to be with the port??? Under Modem Properties, Diagnostics, I highlight Com 3 and get a message saying, couldn't open port and then this comes up Port: COM3, Interrupt: 0, Highest speed: no response. Then it lists the modem (Rockwell HCF..) and the Identifier. But under that is nothing. Anyone that can help?

Based on the problem as you described it, the key phrase in here is 'Port: Com3, Interrupt: 0'. This device should not be using interrrupt 0 because that particular interrupt is used for the computer's system timer. Go into the control panel, systems, device manager, highlight Ports (COM 3 may be listed. If so, highlight it), and view its resources. You may have a caution symbol present. If the interrupt for this port is 0, try reassigning it to IRQ 4 (this is the default IRQ for COM 1 and COM 3). You may have to physically uninstall the modem and reinstall it and let the system detect it again.
See if this will resolve the issue. I'm sure that there is someone else on this forum that may have experience this same problem.
Good Luck.....................

If this is a serial camera, instead of USB, the problem is that the camera and modem are trying to use the same COM port. COM 1 & 3 should use IRQ 4, COM 2& 4 use IRQ 3.
Check and see if the camera is trying to use a serial port, if so, that's the most likely problem. Since the modem is a version of winmodem, HCF, it's not likely to have a jumper to tell it to use a different COM port, you'll have to do it a different way.
Try booting into Safe Mode using the [F8] key, or holding [Ctrl] while booting until you see a boot menu, and remove the modem from Device Manager in Safe Mode. Remove ALL modems listed. Then reboot and install the modem again, see if it will take another COM port. The modem has to be installed by software, not by simply installing the drivers, hence the suggestion to install it from the restore CD.

If you had everything...Where would you put it?

Thanks for your response. I gave up on the camera and uninstalled it and reinstalled our original modem. Things are working now. After Thanksgiving I may try to tackle the camera again so I appreciate your input.
Thanks again
