After formatting my hard drive and reloading Windows 98se, and Directx 8, my printer no longer works. While tring to print anything I get an error message: "The computer has lost communication with the printer". I tested the two way communications, through the HP tool box (it checked good).
I down loaded and installed the latest version of the printer drivers. The HP support site was no help I tried everything they suggested. The problem presists. Does anyone know of another reason why i'm having the problem.
Does your printer port show up in the Device manager? Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, then the Device Manager tab. I occasionally have had to run Add New Hardware to detect the ports.

I don't know whether or not your problem has been solved but when I had exactly the same problem on my 722C, I found that the ribbon cable from the case to my motherboard was loose. As soon as I tightened it, everything worked fine and has ever since.

Hi Zippy 5150
You might want to try this HP forum web site for the 722c deskjet printer; http://forum1.support.hp.com:88/servlet/CLA_Servlet.Login?forumNum=000401. I have a HP 722C deskjet printer. I have checked it out several times and they appear to have good moderators on it. I hope you can find some help there that will solve your problems. Good luck.
