During shutdown I get the above mentioned error message. Also, if I leave my computer on for over 24 hrs (approximately), it locks. When I try to shut it down from the Start menu I get an error message: CPD has caused an invalid page fault. Finally, after using my computer for a half hour or so, the disk drive runs almost constantly and occasionally searches the A: drive and/or D: drive. I hope these problems are all related.
Thanks, appreciate the help. BC

Here's a link to a KB article that might help. You may not be having the exact problem talked about in the article. But it explains how to keep the "Announcement Manager" from starting at bootup.( if your not using webtv then I would uninstall it. That would get rid of the Annclist error) You may also want to download the patch for webtv included in the article. As for the "searching" problem try clearing out the Documents folder and I would also turn off any power management settings. ( those settings could be causing your computer to lock up.)

Go to Start\Settings\Taskbar and Start Menu then Start Menu Programs tab, click the Advanced button, and look in the Start Up folder for for Fast Find. Delete it, or create a temporary folder and move it, that lets you move it back if you decide later you need it for some reason. Fast Find is part of MS Office and will cause the computer to "search" drives periodically.
I also have a link on my webpage to several articles in the MSKD concerning Invalid Page Faults, that might be worth looking at.
