i recently installed windows 98 again, however now it can detect the USB ports (i don't know if there different makes of USB of anything so i don't know what drivers if any to get!!!) help please i need to use my scanner!!
its not the actual USB as it was working before format

If your mb has a via chipset try the via usb filter patch at www.via.com (http://www.via.com) and also a patch from microsoft for users of win98SE with a via chip set. That cured my problems

Have you checked BIOS to see if USB is enabled?

You also might try the Add New Hardware Wizard, and see if reinstalling USB controllers might help. I would remove USB from Device Manager in Safe Mode first.
