View Full Version : Missing dots in printing
Hi guys,
I have an epson 640 printer and I got missing dots in the printout for the black color only. I have tried several times following the procedure to clean the print head but nothing has changed yet.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for the help. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hmm..two in a row, must be printer day...
Sounds like it's time for a new cartridge. Ther ink nozzles get clogged and that's what causes the lines you describe. Either it's low on ink or clogged, either way you need a new cartridge. If you do have a new one, try cleaning out the holder. It may have some buildup. Use Q-tips and rubbing alcohol, and let it dry overnight.

Yes, I have changed with the new ink cartridge but it doesn't solve the problem. I don't have any idea what inside the printer yet. So would you please tell me where the holder is, and what is Q- tips and rubbing alcohol? How many percent of alcohol and where can I get it?
Thanks very much.
Since you didn't have a from line I guess Pete assumed you're in the US, but last question first, 70% isopropyl alcohol is what your after, and Q-tips are a brand name of cotton tipped swabs (little sticks with wads of cotton on the ends). Some printers have the printhead separate from the cartridge, the part that the cartidge slips into is the holder and the printhead is the part that would be closest to the paper.
Cleaning your printhead (http://support.epson.com/hardware/printer/inkjet/sc670_/flash/btclean.html) from Epson. Is the the procedure you followed?

mjc: Yes, I am in the US, and that's exactly the procedure that I've followed but the problem is still there.
Guess that the only thing left is to use the alcohol and which part I should clean. The holder or the printhead?
Is it Ok for me to use different brands than O-tips?
thanks
Yes, to the Q-tips and probably both.
