Recently installed a 2nd hard as a slave on 1st IDE. Then put in the cdrom as a master on the 2nd IDE. Everything works fine in bios & windows 98 except that the cd drive door opens up everytime I boot up or shut down. I've checked everything over & over. The jumper pins are set to master for the cd rom & it's all by itself so that should work. The cd is on the right connector. Any help is appreciated. I have a new cd-rw I want to install but I figure I need to get the bugs out first.

This is one I've not encountered yet.
Quite possible the CD-ROM is on it's way out. You could try replacing it with the new CDRW and see if the problem persists.
Another weird solution may be to disable "auto insert notification" by going through the device manager and entering into the properties for the CD-ROM...while the auto insert is just a flash of the reading mechanism maybe the power used is confusing the CD-ROM (like I said...a weird guess)
Your bios is detecting IDE channel 2 device 1 (or 0) as a CDROM?
Anything newly done to the pc or any viruses found?

Thanks bassvax.
I got so disgusted with that old cd rom drive that I went ahead & put in the new one (in the exact same way the oldie was installed)& no more problems! Maybe it was wearing out but it just barely made it past the warranty. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif
