I was trying to figure out why my comp was running slow, and i think the problem has to do with the way it is networked, .....anyway, when i was looking i found another problem, the network card and the new video card I just installed on AGP are using the same IRQ, I have no idea how to make it use a different one, and if i did, which one to tell it to use, so i went into the setup and told it to NOT assign the AGP an IRQ, which stopped the problems, but now watching video is unheard of on my comp, it wont do it no way no how, I need to find out how to set the IRQ so my video card can work, it is the rage fury Pro (32 MB) made by ATI

thanks

Hello bmpkns2,

What you need to do is to remove one of the PCI cards and install it in a different slot. Basically you have to play musical cards until you get a setup that works properly. If you have more cards then your board can handle, in the end you have to make a choice which one you want to remove, or which setup cfg causes you the least amount of problems. On alot of mother boards you simply "Can't" use "All" the PCI slots, and there are also some cards that are going to insist on using specific IRQ's.

It also may help you to play around with the assign IRQ for video or disable it. It may also help to disable any resources in the bios you're not using such as unused serial ports, USB, etc....

Also some mother boards have the ability in the bios to manually asign the IRQ's but Im asuming from your post that yours does not......

Hope this helps!

You didn't say which OS you're using. I have 98, bmpkns2, and although my modem is showing at Com 3 in my bios, it is showing on IRQ 10 (in System Info)with my video adapter and the "IRQ holder for PCI Steering". 98 assigns those...see Here (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q182/6/04.ASP?LN=EN-US&SD=gn&FR=0&qry=IRQ&rnk=19&src=DHCS_MSPSS_gn_SRCH&SPR=W98)

That article also applies to 95, 98se, and ME. I don't think it is a problem..at least on mine..because it has been that way for a LONG time before I ever noticed it. I grant you that I don't have a firm grasp on the AGP stuff. Mine says "PCI/AGP v4457a" on my Trident 3D Image.

hey thanks for the info, guys. I have an AMD motherboard, less than a year old, and yes it can be manually set for IRQ, i set AGP to not use IRQ, then started looking around, I have an onboard USB connection, with nothing plugged in, and i bought a USB 2-slot card a couple months ago, because i was not sure how to do that with the connector. Now i went this morning and got a USB connector to put in the plug on the motherboard, it already was assigned IRQ, and wasnt being used, then i took the USB PCI card out, and everything is working fine now, I appreciate it. I am using windows 98 SE. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
