Can all CD ROMs read all CDs? My father has had difficulty getting his CD ROM to read CDs burned on home PCs - someone told him that his particular CD ROM model doesn't read homemade CDs. I thought the writing process was identical whether it was done in a manufacturing plant or with a PC ...???

Some older CD ROM drives won't read home-burned CD's. I'm not exactly sure why, something about the encoding method I think...I have a 16X that won't read them. Works great for anything else...but just retired it since it stopped working, guess it's had its last cleaning...

Actually, commercial software or audio CD's aren't burned
in the same way as the ones you do at home.

The process is more like the way LP's were pressed, rather than 'cut'.

Pete's note is a common one for form modreators to include intheir signature lines as a general warning for all that they don't accept questions emailed to them.
