i have purchased a digital camera only to discover that i cannot connect it
to my pc as their is no usb port available or provision for a RS 232 cable
either, the main purpose of buying this camera was to send photographs of
goods to be auctioned on the internet, i have been advised to sell my
present pc for an updated one but cannot afford this at the moment, is their
some cheaper way of solving this problem.
Shauny,
I know you're getting a little tired of this, but refresh our memories...system specs, please.
What is available on the camera and the computer? What kind of connector does the camera have?
Some computers have the space (pins) on the motherboard to connect a USB connector to, the just aren't hooked up you can buy a connector that will plug in and then you'll have USB ports...

The digital camera i have is not expensive, it is a JD Jendigital 350 video the system requirements are: Win 95 / 98 or above, Pentium or above, 32 Mb ram or above! my monitor is SVGA i have a cd rom driver, and 110Mb free memory capacity, i also have installed a scanner, and a printer, the camera has two connectors supplied, they are a RS 232 cable, and a USB cable, i have no USB port or a socket for the RS 232- interface cable.

Shauny,
on the back of your pc you will have two comm port, one where your modem is connected the other is free?? Connect you RS232 cable to this and the other end to your camera. Make sure you have installed your software, then run the software to bring your images into your pc. I would then suggest that you take a pic of your pc and sell that at auction!! Running win98se on 24mb of ram!!!! the camera software said a minimum of 32mb!! God you make us brits sound like a right load of tight sods.. Just thought if your pc is that old you might have one port with a modem connected (steam powered?) and the other with your mouse connected as you may not have a ps2 mouse!!

sea, glad you enjoyed the post!!!
You can buy a card with USB ports on which are cheap (£15), seem to work well, the one I bought recently claim the minimum spec. required was a 486. Your motherboard manual is a quick way of checking if there are USB ports built in, or see if your BIOS mentions USB anywhere.
