In reading through the messages, I noticed a few times that you suggested going to safe mode to uninstall printer drivers. I'm wondering why you have to go to safe mode and not just do it through Windows.

To make sure you get ALL the drivers. If you have previously installed the same or another printer (or other component-video card, modem etc) the old drivers are not fully removed by Windows. Boot into Safe Mode and you'll see the previous component(s) listed. These "ghost" drivers can and do cause problems when Windows for some strange reason tries to use them instead of the new ones. So when you install newer drivers or a different component, I always recommend removing the old one from Device Manager in Safe Mode to make sure it's really gone.

Well now that's really useful information. Thxs Paleo. I've been having printer problems and will try that before I post a message about it. btw, The PC Guide has got to be the greatest resource on the net. Everytime I refer back to it, I can't believe it's still there. You know how the good stuff tends to disappear!
