I have a 52x CD ROM. Recently it has stopped reading any CDs that I put in the tray. and i when i try browsing the drive i get an error message that says " D:\ is not accessible. The device is not ready. "
I checked the properties and it says the device is working properly. I think the reading head is probably dirty, but I dont know how to clean that, if its possible at all. If it could be something else, let me know.
First off, yes it is very easy to clean it, there are special cleanig kits availabe at just about any store that sells computer supplies (just about any knid of supplie, too). Just ask for a CD drive cleaning kit...
Second, the "read head" is a little laser, with a glass lens, that can get dirty very easily...dust, smoke, grease...just about anything that will make your furniture dusty will have an impact on it.
Third, it could be something else but the best place to start is with a cleaning. Eliminate dirt as a possibilty and if the problem still occurs we can try to troubleshoot it some more.
