I installed a Dlink DFE-530tx ethernet card onto my old computer. Got to windows (95) and did the whole Plug and Play installation of the drivers. Reboot the computer and while it's booting up (while the bios is loading I guess) it gives me this error:

Warning: IRQ not configured - Pci Network Controller at slot 02 Bus: 00 Device: 0E, Function: 00

It gives me the option to goto the BIOS setup or continue. So I continue, skip on over to dos and run the diagnostic program that came with the network card. When I run this it says that the IRQ is 255. I know that can't be right so I try putting the network card in the other 2 PCI slots I have, and the same thing happens (well, the slot # in the first error message changes accordingly). So I go into Win95 and the device manager tells me that the device has be disabled in hardware.

I've been getting this other error message when the BIOS loads for a while that might be related. That error message says:

Invalid System Configuration Data - run configuration utility

I just always F1'd to continue there and the computer ran fine. So there might be something screwy with the BIOS, but I dunno. I did have to upgrade it when I installed the overdrive chip (or the second HD, I've forgotten). Anyway, I'm stuck...the system specs to the best of my knowledge are:

Don't know what kind of mother board, nor do I know how to find out.
P90 with an overdrive chip to 180 MHz
40 megs of RAM
A ~1 gig HD and another ~3 gig HD
Windows 95

Thanks for any help

IRQ 255 usually means that there is no IRQ configured...you should probably see what options you have for configuring it in BIOS.....

You may need to reserve an IRQ for the slot you put the card in...check the documentation to see if there is anything about setting it up in Win95

What are the minimum system requirements for the D-Link card?

Which version of Win95 -- OSR1 or OSR2?

In general, "skipping over" BIOS warning messages is not a good practice.
