My external ZIP drive when hooked to my machine at work reads the First disk. Than any other disk you put in comes up with the data from the first disk. Will not show what is on any other disk unless you reboot than it again reads the first disk you put in and will not show any other data if you put in a nother disk. I even tried doing a find file that I knew was on the 2nd disk and no go. Has anyone had this type of problem or know of a solution. This machine at work is a Compaq deskpro 4000 P2 500 128mb ram.
Thanks for all the help! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

What kind of external drive (USB, parallel...)?
Check the cable, make sure that it is firmly attached, and possibly replace it.
"Try assigning a unique label to each disk. You can view/edit the label under the Properties for the drive in My Computer. Also, check your drive's configuration in the appropriate section(s) elsewhere on this site (http://pw1.netcom.com/~deepone/zipjaz/).

AwARe's standing advice concerning ZIP drives "Throw it away!"
but since this is really of little help to solving the problem.....
are you using the toolz software that came with the Zip blazer?

I have exactly the same problem on my CDRW and my CDROM. Someone told me to open Explorer and highlight the drive and click up on Refresh. I have 98, and I have tried Refresh in both Explorer and by opening a window on the CDROM or CDRW...didn't work any way..I got the same file list as the first CD I put into the reader. This is pathetic, but what does work is by switching from one drive to another in between CDs I am searching. So, I put the first one into one drive or the other, check it to see if the file I am looking for is on there. I put the next CD I want to check into the other CD (ROM or RW) and will get the actual file list. And on and on, until I find what I am looking for. In your case, you probably don't have two drives, but you could try putting a floppy into your floppy drive and switching over to that in between zip disks.

Unfortunately, Zip drives are notorious for acting flaky as they get older,
and eventually many of them succumb to the now-infamous 'click of death'.
