I have a 233MHz, 64MB, win98. I changed the hard drive & had to get an LBA Pro card to recognize the larger (60GB) drive. Couldn't install any games cuz would keep getting (..perfomed an illegal operation...)errors. Also the person that helped me with the HD formatted into 6 drives with 10GB in each. I decided to reformat the HD & start from scratch. I installed Windows 98 again & now it doesn't recognize the modem & I only have 2 & 6 colors on my display. Also boot up is REALLY slow. In Device Manager, under Display, it showed unknown monitor & under Other Devices it showed PCI Serial Controller with a yellow exclamation mark also it didn't show a modem. I found the disks for the modem & monitor. I removed "unknown monitor" & used the disk to add Optiquest V75 monitor. When I reboot the system both unknown monitor & Optiquest V75 is listed under monitor. Other devices also comes back again even after I removed it. For the other devices, i tried to "reinstall driver" but it comes up Windows was unable to locate a drive for this device.
How do I get my system to recognize the correct monitor & modem?
The only information I have for the modem is: MDP3858-U.
What happened to the 256colors that my computer use to have before I reformatted the HD?
I would really appreciate ANY help cuz I'm about ready to throw this computer out!!
Thank You in advance.

The drivers you need to look for are the video card drivers...also you probably need to remove the others in safe mode...boot into safe mode (f8 when you are booting a menu will pop up and you should choose safe mode) and then go to device manager and remove the unknown monitor, and any ghost drivers (multiple copies of drivers), alsoo you need to find what video card you have and either locate the drivers for on the Net or use the installation disk that came with the card and reinstall them.
