I installed a USB scanner on a P-90 computer and have run into a BIOS
problem. When I try to scan something, I get a message to change the parallel port setting to normal or EPP. I don't have those choices on my BIOS, so it leads me to believe that I need to update the BIOS. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance, Gene
What are the specs on the scanner?
Is the BIOS "flashable", to find out we need more specs on the board?

It's a Visioneer 4400 USB scanner. I've got Phoenix 4.04 (M54Li 08PM) BIOS.
I'm thinking I need to upgrade, yes? Gene
Do you have the right scanner software loaded? Since that scanner has USB-only interface, I don't understand why it would be asking you to change the parallel port setting.

You may have a hard time finding the BIOS upgrade for that board...Microfirmware has one for $45, but it doesn't say anything about USB updates, and the manufaturer's site has been bought by somene else. you can try looking for it at Wim's (http://www.ping.be/bios/) or diamondmm (http://ftp.diamondmm.de/micronic/pentium/m54/files.htm)

Thanks, everyone. I've checked the Phoenix website & they sell a direct upgrade for my BIOS. I'm not sure if it's worth it to invest another $50 into an old machine. I'll have to think on that one for a bit......Gene
