Hello, my PC runs under Windows 95 and the problem is related to a bad operation of F5 key. It doesnīt work as the others do, and when I press it the only answer is a beep, no matter the application active at that moment
(always under Windows).

I have changed the keyboard twice and the problem remains, so I think it could be something wrong with the operating system configuration. But I donīt have idea about where to correct this (the registry, perhaps?), so I would be very grateful if someone could help me.

Thanks.

The only suggestion I can think of since you've already tried other keyboards is to boot into safe mode and remove the KB from there and reboot to see if that resolves it. Unless the connector on your motherboard is iffy...are there any other problems related to the KB?

I've removed the keyboard in safe mode and reinstalled the controller when booting next time, but the problem remains. No matter installing generic drivers or the specific ones (supplied in floppy disks), the behaviour doesn't change.
There aren't any more problems related to the keyboard, what makes me think the motherboard is OK.
Is there any way to say Windows95 to capture a key press and to perform always the same action, e.g. to beep, in my case? (it is possible that someone could have changed some configuration settings).
Thank you again.

I saw a list of keyboard shortcuts somewhere, but can't find it right now. Did you check under Accessibility in Control Panel? Looked just now and there are lots of setting options under there. The sound part of your question makes me wonder...there are settings for sound in Accessibility. If something is set in there...wouldn't matter what keyboard you were currently using. There is also a Keyboard under Control Panel..mine didn't say anything about your problem, but I use an old HUGE keyboard which probably doesn't have some of the bells and whistles of the newer ones.

Check keyboard/input locales. Upper Bulgarian is one example where the F5 key is bound to the PC Speaker and Upper Bulgarian schoolkids take advantage of this "feature" to try to persuade new teachers that the PCs have broken and get out of class.
There may be others.
Is something runnig in the background that is binding F5 to something else other than Refresh? Worth a dig in your StartUp folder, registry and all the usual suspect places...
