Reinstall video drivers. Windrivers (http://www.windrivers.com) and WinFiles (http://www.winfiles.com) are the best places to look. Make sure you unzip the drivers before trying to install them.
Once you get drivers installed, set the monitor type in display properties. I normally use Standard VGA, it works for almost anything.

This is a Graphic card drivers problem and has nothing to do with the monitor. Check what your Graphic card (VGA) model is and get the appropriate drivers, u can find all kinds of drivers at windrivers.com as Paleo Pete aleady said. If u can get a driver for ur moniter it'd be better, if not "unknown monitor" works without problems.
