Just looking for some success (or failure) stories...

"Discovered" a USR 33.6 external sportster in my PC rumage pile. On a whim, I ran the "update wizard" that told me for just $60 US, I can have my 33.6 "turned into" a 56k .

Now my question: has anyone done this and been happy with the performance of the modem? My hesitation is that for $60 I can buy a non USR external modem (not a winmodem) or for a few bucks more I can just buy a damn brand new USR 56k. If it was $20 I would roll the dice but...

I did a fair amount of sniffing around for the flash utility (mostly german and russian sites) and did get a flash utility but it was an older one...NATURALLY I DID THIS with "shareware" mentality meaning that if it worked well, I would "fork over the 60 bucks" since that would be the "legit" thing to do...

I have a USR V-everything that was originally a 33.6 modem .
It is Not a win modem .
I paid the price ($50) for the 56k upgrade,
It was well worth it. The New Usr V-everything sells for over$300

In the case of the Sporster I don’t know if its worth it
Today and OEM Usr model 2977 PCI modem sells for about $70
They are hardware modems Not win modems
Spend the little extra and be able to do more in more systems
