hi all,
i have a HP 820 cxi professional series printer, but when ever i turn it on, it makes a noise like the cartridges are jammed(there not)
im using windows 98 and have tried reinstalling the printer several times
i have downloaded the latest driver and nothing has made it work.
Has any one got any help or should i buy a new printer?
thanks in advance

Sounds like your printer has seen it's better days. My printer does that off and on sometimes. It's been doing that for over a year, so if you can bear w/ the inconvenience and it's still working, you might be able to squeeze a little more life out of the thing. Otherwise, I'd say it's just time to buy another one.

I am not sure on the model, but if it is an Ink Jet type and the cartrage carrier travels by a belt drive you can reset it by moving it back to the start position BY THE BELT ONLY. Do push the carrier itself. I have had the same problem for a short time now and that seems to work for a long period. Where are you located?

I also think that it may be a belt problem. You may be able to find a new belt for it. But since HP has discontinued it you may be better off trying a new printer. Service on it will be a little on the high side because of this.
Try searching somewhere like PriceWatch (http://www.pricewatch.com/) for a new one.
