Hi,
Currently I have an Abit BE6 motherboard with 4 IDE channels.

IDE #1 - Primary - CDRW drive set as master on a single cable
IDE #2 - Secondary - CDRom drive also set as master on a single cable
IDE #3 - Primary - HDD (OS Win98se)
IDE #4 - Secondary - HDD (backup)

Running Celeron 800 with 256MB ram (350W PSU)

Would this setup cause any problem or is there a better way to connect my optical drives.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Tks.

I would put hard drives in the same configuration but on IDE 1 and 2. Usually when booting IDE 1 is where the machine looks for an OS. If you use the configuration listed above, it will be looking for an OS on a CD ROM drive and won't find one...

HI Paleo,

Forgot to mention that both HDD are using IDE 3 & 4 because those 2 IDEs are Ultra DMA 66 specs. whereas the IDE 1 & 2 are ATA 33.

I have changed the CDRom to IDE #1 as slve and CDRW to IDE #2(Sec) as master. This this configuration appropriate.

Tks.
